Short answer
In North Naperville, near I-88, Ogden Avenue and Diehl Road, we paint everything from mid-century ranches to late-2010s townhouses. Older ranches and split-levels need scraping, priming and trim repair before color goes on, while the two-bedroom condos more often call for ceilings, kitchens and room-by-room interior work.

Mid-century ranches and split-levels carry more paint history
A mid-century ranch has usually been repainted many times, and each layer adds to the film on its trim. Where that film cracks or alligators, sanding it smooth is the only way a new coat lies flat. Federal lead rules reach any home finished before 1978, so test a mid-century ranch before its old coats are sanded; our notes on pre-1978 homes cover the steps.
Split-levels add a lower level set partly below grade, where the bottom course of siding meets soil and mulch. That course is where paint fails first, so we check it for soft wood and keep new paint off the ground line. The newer traditional builds alongside them are easier work: clean, dull the gloss, prime bare spots and recoat.
Condos from the 1980s, townhouses from the late 2010s
The two-bedroom condos here date from the early 1980s to the 2000s, so some of the older units may still have textured ceilings. Removing one starts with a lab test of a sample, then wetting, scraping, skim coating and paint. We seal the room in plastic and keep dust out of the rest of the unit, which matters when the whole home is a few rooms.
Townhouses built in the late 2010s are a different job. Many are nearing a first repaint, often to replace flat builder paint with a finish that wipes clean, and to fix the nail pops and corner cracks that appear as new framing settles. Interior work there can be split floor by floor, so you are never without a bedroom.
Six common painting jobs in North Naperville

Mid-century ranches carry decades of paint layers, so scraping, sanding and spot priming come before two finish coats.
Siding Painting
Ranches and split-levels of that era were often sided in hardboard or aluminum, and each takes its own primer.
Popcorn Ceiling Removal
Condos built from the early 1980s on may still have textured ceilings, which get tested before any scraping starts.
Drywall Repair
Late-2010s townhouses show nail pops and corner cracks as framing settles, an easy fix before their first repaint.
Trim, Baseboard & Door Painting
Tired or stained trim in mid-century homes turns crisp with sanding, a bonding primer and hard-wearing enamel.
Kitchen Cabinet Painting
A ranch kitchen with its original wood cabinets can be degreased, primed and sprayed instead of torn out.
